CTC317 – Hello New Catalogue

Hello to the new catalogue and Happy Mother’s Day to all the mums and mother figures out there! I hope you have all had a lovely day with loved ones. This time of year is always exciting when the new annual catalogue goes live and we can all get our hands on the new goodies. I’m not sure about you but my list gets pretty big and I have to prioritise as to what I get first. As demonstrators, we get to preorder some items a month earlier but a lot of the things I wanted weren’t on there. I placed a small order during pre-order but I’m now waiting for all of my goodies to get to me after placing my order the other day.

This week’s challenge is saying hello to the new catalogue. This means we could case anything from the catalogue. I wanted to use the Butterfly Brilliance stamp set (which was available on early release) as I hadn’t used it yet and took my inspiration from various parts of the catalogue and different projects. I strayed from what I first started with so can’t really share one particular project that I used in the end.

As I needed to make a Mother’s Day card for my MIL I started by stamping the stamp which includes 6 butterflies all on the one stamp, making it quick and easier to stamp a number in one go. I then coloured these in with Blends™ – I used the light and dark of Highland Heather, Pool Party, Pale Papaya (one of the new In Colors), So Saffron and Petal Pink. This is what it looked like once I had coloured them all in (excuse the few scribbles between the butterflies but I knew these would be cut out).

Another bonus with this bundle is that the coordinating Brilliant Wings Dies has one large die that cuts all of these out in one go, along with a number of other dies. This is what they looked like once they were cut out. Apologies in advance but this is going to be a very photo heavy blog today.

Don’t you just love how you can blend different colours together using the Blends™ and don’t just have to stick to the light & dark combo of the same colour. If you go back over the top of a colour with a different colour, it gives it a whole new look! So next up, here is the card I made.

I wanted to keep it fairly simple to really showcase the colours on the butterfly so I started with a Pale Papaya card base and then added a mat of Basic White that I had run through the Bricks & Mortar Embossing Folder. I heat embossed the sentiment with White Embossing Powder on Pool Party card. The sentiment comes from the Dressed to Impress stamp set which has carried over. A few rhinestones were added and it was done.

You can’t just give a card for Mother’s Day so I made a coordinating gift using the Scalloped Kraft Treat Boxes. These are so cute and have so many uses. So, do you think I just made a box and popped something inside? You should know me by now, I can’t keep it that simple! My MIL loves photos and particularly photos of my kids, so I converted the box into a sort of photo display box. I’m not sure what you would call it.

The sentiment on the top comes from the new Inspired Thoughts stamp set and I thought it was appropriate for Mother’s Day. Keep reading/watching to see what happens when you lift the lid.

So how did I do this? It was actually quite simple once I worked out what to do to create what I had in my head. I wasn’t sure whether to attach the photos to ribbons or a concertina of cardstock. I decided on the ribbon and used the purple & white ribbon from the Playing with Patterns Ribbon Combo Pack that has just retired this week. When you fold the boxes up, the lid has two flaps and then the bit that folds over and tucks in. I cut a small slit in the middle of the bottom flap and tucked the ribbon through (see the photo below) and attached it firmly between the two flaps with tape and glue. Luckily the lid just lifts off as I don’t think you could undo it very easily! I then attached the photos back to back using Tear & Tape ensuring one strip on each side attached to the ribbon. I could have kept going with more photos, but you have to stop somewhere. Voila! All done.

To close the box, you just let the photos fall into the box and they just fold back onto each other where the ribbon is between them. Here’s a video of it being opened.

Now that you’ve made it through my long blog, make sure you hop on over to Sandra‘s page to see what she has to share with us from the new catalogue. I can’t wait to see what she has coming up with.

You don’t have to have any of the new goodies from the 2021-2022 Annual Catalogue to be able to join in this week’s challenge. Just pick a project you like and case it using whatever products you have. We’d love to see what you come up with so make sure that you share it on our Facebook page.

Until next time, happy stamping

Michelle
