Well I’ve survived the first week of school holidays and one week to go. I did manage to squeeze in a little time this week to make my card for this week’s challenge. This week we are CASEing and layout and then stepping it up. For those of you who know me, I’m not a fan of fussy cutting, but this card has a lot of it! I think the end result was worth it though.
I know I’ve CASEd from this page before, but this time I’m casing the bottom left card. I actually followed more than just the layout and then stepped it up.
Here is my stepped up version of the card. I wonder if you can work out exactly what I did to step it up? If you aren’t sure, keep reading and I’ll step you through it from the beginning.
First of all I stamped all of the various stamps from the Peakaboo Farm stamp set to create my scene using the pig, cow, bird, stone wall and cloud stamps. Once the scene was created I coloured it in with my Blends™. I used Balmy Blue for the sky, Flirty Flamingo for the pig, Soft Suede for the cow, Highland Heather for the bird and Smoky Slate for the stone wall.
I then thought about how I could step it up. I decided to make the stone wall 3D, along with some of the features on the pig and cow like their nose and hooves/feet. You can see in the photo below the difference it makes between adding the fussy cut stones on Dimensionals™ and the flat wall coloured in just with Blends™. To do this, I stamped a second one of each thing on scrap white cardstock and coloured them in before fussy cutting and adhering them on top of the same pieces.
For the clouds I cut the clouds out on scrap white cardstock and fussy cut them out before applying Shimmery White Embossing Paste to them. Once they had dried, I adhered these where the clouds were stamped on the scene. This was another step/technique to step up the card. I added a small mat of white so that it stood out more.
You can see in this photo that was taken on an angle the dimension on the card.
This was then adhered to a Gorgeous Grape cardbase on an angle and the sentiment from the Pirates & Mermaids stamp set was heat embossed with White Embossing Powder on Just Jade cardstock and cut out using the Stitched Rectangle Dies.
Next up is Peta with her stepped up card. Make sure you keep hopping around to see all of this week’s creations from the design team.
How would you step up a layout from the catalogue? We’d love to see it. Please add your photo to our Facebook page and you could be this week’s winner.
Thinking of all of you in lockdown. Hopefully it is giving you a little down time and some more time to get creating. Stay safe.
Until next time, happy stamping
