CTC276 – Hippo Birthday

Welcome to another week of CASEing the Catty and this week we are CASEing the animals from the Annual Catalogue.  You may have hopped on over from Julia’s whale of a creation or may be starting here.  Either way, welcome to another week and enjoy hopping around the design team’s creations.  I hope they give you some inspiration.

This week we are CASEing the Animals of the Annual Catalogue.  As you flip through the catalogue you will notice many animals, from dogs & cats to goats & zebras, many sea creatures, elephants, pandas, rabbits, hippos, sheep and horses, just to name a few.  There are actually quite a few animals/creatures when you start looking.  So where do you start?

I decided to use the Hippo Happiness stamp set and used the bottom card on page 49, which you can see above, as my inspiration with the hills and animals.

I decided to make an exploding box and used the explosion box by Brigitte Keiling from Stempel Fantasie (I tried to link it to her creation however I had trouble for some reason) and then altered the dimensions.  I created 4 sections (2 smaller and 2 larger) by 3 sections for my box rather than 6 x 3 of the same size in hers.

The lid of the box I created to be similar to the card on page 49.  I’ve used most of the images from the Hippo Happiness stamp set to create this explosion box.

Once you take the lid off the box, it looks like this and then folds out fully to see the fully card as below.  I created the hills using the curved dies from the Hippo & Friends Dies and trimming the points off them before running them through the Subtle Embossing Folder.

Below you can see a short video of the box being opened.  You could include a small gift or some treats inside the box if you wanted to.

You may be wondering which DSP I used for the purple stripes.  In fact it isn’t actually DSP but I created it by repeatedly stamping the lined stamp from the Pattern Play stamp set in Gorgeous Grape.  I am definitely using this stamp set much more than I thought to create a range of backgrounds.

I then decided to make a card to match and used a mat of my DIY stripey cardstock and then layered the three different dies in Flirty Flamingo, Highland Heather and Granny Apple Green.

Dimensions

Whisper White Box Base – 24cm x 18cm, scored at 6cm and 12cm on the short side & 6cm and 18cm on the long side. Cut down to the first score line at the 6cm and 18cm points on the long side. (refer to the photo below)

DSP for the box – 4 @ 11.5cm x 5.5cm and 4 @ 5.5cm x 5.5cm.

Whisper White Lid – 10.5cm x 16.5cm, scored at 2cm on all sides. Cut into the first score line on the long sides (refer to the photo below).

DSP for the lid – 2 @ 12cm x 1.5cm and 2 @ 6cm x 1.5cm.

Next up is Shannon with her animal creation. I wonder which animals she used.  Keep hopping around to see all of the design team’s creations for this week.

I’m sure we will see many cute creations this week using the animals from the Annual Catalogue.  Please share your creation on our Facebook page by clicking the image below.  We’d love to see what you have created and you don’t need a blog to be able to join in.

Until next time, happy stamping

Michelle

  1. What a fabulous project, Michelle and Hippo Happiness is perfect for it You’ve done an amazing job with the DIY striped background, getting it so even. That would do my head in, lol.
